1-800-FREELANCE
Put us on speed dial.
1-800-FREELANCE is an online community for and by freelancers who love the freedom of working for themselves but who would also love to have someone (many someones, actually) to combine resources with when faced with questions and conundrums.
We offer weekly facilitated discussions on tricky issues, unlimited group chats among members, a (forthcoming) newsletter on unexpectedly useful topics, and resources that will help you get the business of you in order.
The talking points

WHAT WE OFFER
- Facilitated discussions where we crowdsource great advice from established freelancers far and wide on some of our most pressing questions and struggles (e.g., Is there a strategy for landing only high-quality clients?)
- Open chats/threads for members on a variety of topics including freelance finances, setting boundaries with clients, the art of careful emailing, building websites, and more.
- Cross-industry resource support
- Interviews with successful freelancers in all fields about their creative habits and business-building hacks
- Spaces to rant, rave, and recover (because taking it out on your client never helps)

HOW IT WORKS
Think of 1-800-FREELANCER as a Slack Channel where, instead of client @heres, you can check in and chat with other freelancers 24/7. It’s also a space where we post our thoughts freelance-adjacent topics we couldn’t find anywhere else (we’re seasoned researchers and writers for publications who have both written countless articles on work, career growth, and finance).
We’re still in beta testing now, trying to sort out what resources we all need and what we definitely don’t. Sign up to join our beta group and/or to be the first to know when we launch live. Membership is free.

WHO IT’S FOR
All freelancers welcome: writers (like us), designers, social strategists, artists, jewelers, dialect coaches, whatever makes you happy. If you’re in need of some driven and creative company as you build your business, you’re welcome here.
Because we’re both freelancers with years of success under our belts, many of our topics will get into the weeds of how to keep leveling up when you’ve already “made it.”
Still, the wisest among us know that we all benefit from going back to the basics, so there will be time for those topics, too.
If you’re new to the work-for-myself business, you’re going to benefit from it all, promise.
We launch in spring 2025.
Intrigued?
Sign up to join as a beta member in February. We’ll email you details on what we’re planning and how you can reap the benefits of our shared space. We hope technology won’t send us to your Spam folder, but if you don’t hear from us in a couple of days, check it!
Who We Are
Jacqueline and Kit.
We met many years ago, back when we both worked at a media platform for women. We spent our days researching and writing about topics related to work, finance, building a career, and everything in between.
Eventually, we both went freelance (to six-figure-and-then-some success), and we’ve spent the last few years texting almost daily to run ideas and questions by each other.
How much would you charge for XYZ?
Is Substack dying or thriving?
They’re asking me for a day rate — ever done that?
Have you ever fired a client?
Are you raising your rates in 2025?
Will you read this email to a client?
1-800-FREELANCE came to us one day during one of these discussions. We thought: If just having each other as a resource has massively helped our businesses, imagine what could happen if there were a whole group of us.
